Reception - Turtles

Welcome to Turtles!

Turtle class is taught by Miss Bowen and supported by Mrs Pearson.

Here is our classroom...

Our Curriculum

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

Through PSHE sessions and provision, we will learn and explore all about our world, including families around the world, and how we can have a positive impact on the environment. We will continue to build relationships with each other and develop our collaborative play.

Communication and Language

There are plentiful opportunities both in the indoor and outdoor environments to enable children to develop their communication and language skills. We will develop our vocabulary through play, reading and a 'Word of the Week'- this will be published on Seesaw.

Over the half-term, we will read a variety of texts, including lots of non-fiction to learn more about dinosaurs and exctinction. Some our favourite texts include The Girl and the Dinosaur, Dinosaurs Love Underpants and Cave Baby.

Physical Development

We have daily fine motor sessions and activities in provision to help strengthen our muscles for writing. This includes: Digit Dance, Dough Disco and The Write Dance.

Our PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays. This half term we will focus on ball skills alongside physical and fitness skills in Real PE.

This half-term, we will learn phase four sounds in phonics, alongside fourteen tricky words (words that cannot be sounded out). We will practise reading and writing CVCC words. A reading book will be sent home for children to apply their phonics and reading skills. The expectation is for children to read 10 minutes, 5 days a week to build fluency. Please remember to practise green sight words too. You can read more about sight words here

This half term we will work on:

  • Comparing numbers to 10
  • Representing 9 and 10
  • Conceptual subitising to 10
  • Exploring 1 more, 1 less
  • Bonds to 10
  • Make arrangements of 10
  • Doubles to 10 (find)
  • Doubles to 10 (make)
  • Even and odd

Understanding the World

Over the half-term we are going to explore dinosaur habitats, diets, extinction and more!

In RE, we will explore Christianity further and think about the Easter Story. We will be visiting Leintwardine Church to find out what happens at Easter. Find our keys here.

Expressive Art and Design

We will begin the half-term by creating our own scultpures in nature, inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Later in the half-term, we will design and create a range of dinosaur fossils.
