As a school we use the DfE validated Twinkl Phonics Scheme which is in line with Letters and Sounds.  Children are taught phonics in small groups.  Twinkl Phonics uses a selection of phonetic learning and sight words.

We frequently hold phonic sessions for parents, if you would like information on how to help your child with learning to read please speak to their class teacher.

Children start learning phonics in their first week in school, they learn how to write the letters, say the sound and do the action.  As they learn more letters and phonic sounds they bend them together and segment them out to begin to read.

At the end of year 1 children take the phonics screening test, this is a statutory test, this can be retaken at the end of year 2 if further consolidation is required.  2022 all children who undertook the screening test passed.
