An active and healthy lifestyle is essential. We are committed to the promotion of regular, sustained and fun activities in Physical Education. We aim to give children the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact in their own physical health and well-being. We want all children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices outside and beyond school. PE can challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem-solving. It can teach children to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team based physical activities. Within dance, it allows children to explore their personal and spiritual identity. Our lessons are delivered with a view to engage and enthuse all children, regardless of ability, and to allow progression for all.

Over their time in school, children will have the opportunity of learning to:

We engage this learning through participation in multi-skills sports, dance, gymnastics, athletics, games (football/rugby), swimming and other sports such as tennis, rounders and hockey. Orienteering, cricket and team games also feature in out two-year long-term plan which can be found here.

We use itineraries to help us focus on what we need to teach in KS1, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2. These also contain key words, curriculum links and opportunities for enrichment activities. We use these to help us see what our children are able to understand, know and do by the end of each two-year focus.
