Bioblitz Buzz!

On June 27th, our school field was transformed into a living laboratory as we launched our much-anticipated Bioblitz. Children, staff, and local experts teamed up to uncover the hidden wildlife that shares our space — and what a day it was!

Armed with nets, magnifiers and a healthy dose of curiosity, pupils discovered and logged an incredible 132 species of insects, mammals and plants. Highlights included the breathtaking Hawk Moth (revealed thanks to a moth trap set the night before), a surprise visit from a rather bold frog, and two dazzling dragonflies that danced over the pond. The chorus of grasshoppers in the long grasses proved irresistible, with groups of children crouching down to track their chirps.

The sunshine couldn’t have been kinder. At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed a whole-school picnic — and as always, food seemed to taste even better outdoors. Refuelled, the children dove straight back into their surveys, eager to see what else they could discover.

The day was more than just science; it was community. Experts from the Wildlife Group guided the children’s explorations, parents and volunteers helped prepare the field, and the energy of the pupils made the event truly unforgettable.

A huge thank you to everyone who made it possible. We can’t wait for the next Bioblitz — and to see how our biodiversity grows and changes over time!
