This term the whole school topic is 'CHANGES'
We will explore the theme of 'changes' in our topic lessons with Mrs C. It will be very interesting finding out how times have changed in different fields such as medicine and technology. We will compare significant individuals from different eras to see how they made their mark on society and influenced our lives today.
In English we will look at storied linked around the theme of 'Under the Sea'. Fabulous books and stories such as Commotion in the Ocean, The Enormous Turnip and Starry Eyed Stan will inspire our own poems, stories and non-fiction texts.
Our maths topics this term will be Place Value (numbers to 20 for year one and numbers to 100 for year 2), Addition and Subtraction and finally Multiplication. We will develop our fluency with numbers before applying our new number confidence to reasoning problems and investigations.
Science lessons will start with a mini-topic around ocean animals. We'll look at what these animals have in common, how they are adapted to survive in an ocean habitat and food chains in the ocean. Following this we'll think about 'CHANGES' - seasonal changes as autumn and winter approach, changes in materials, and changes in our bodies related to eating, exercise and growth.
PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesdays, Miss Nicholls will work as sports coach with the children on their agility, balance and control trough our specialist PE programme 'Real PE'. On Wednesdays the children will have swimming lessons at Knighton Swimming Pool. Please leave your PE kit at school all the time as we may swap days or do an additional session. We ill send the PE bags home at holiday times for washing. Please could you ensure all PE kit is named - dark sports shorts, blue polo shirt and pumps or trainers please.
We will continue using Purple Mash for our computing sessions. After a brief recap of the programme we will look at grouping and sorting (early database skills) and music compositions. After half term we will use technology to create animated story books.
Please remember that our door is always open and we are more than happy to discuss work or personal issues to make sure that your child has the best possible time at school.... there isn't much we can't help with, unless we don't know about it. If you need us, leave a message with the teacher on the gate in the morning or speak to us after school. We have new safeguarding procedures in place but these will not affect our open door policy.
We hope you enjoy looking through photos on the website to share our learning experiences with us.
