Welcome to Otters!
Wow, the summer term already! This news letter will be focussing on the first half term as when we break up, I will be starting my maternity leave. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support this year and to say how much I have enjoyed teaching your children. They have made me laugh every day and their enthusiasm for learning is commendable. Though it is for the best possible reason, I am sad that I won’t be able to finish the year with them but look forward to hearing how they continue to progress when I pop in next term and next year.
This half term, outdoor PE will be on a Thursday afternoon with Mr Rix.
We will still be swimming for the first two weeks of the half term and impromptu PE sessions will be plotted around the time table to compliment the summer weather (fingers crossed!!). Therefore, it is important that children have their PE kits in school at all times.
As ever, homework will be set on a Monday to be handed in the following Monday. Every other week, your child will bring home either their maths workbook or their reading comprehension workbook. We will highlight which activities are to be completed.
Froggy maths will also be tested on a Friday. Please practice with your child throughout the week. Times table knowledge is vital for the maths curriculum.
Could you please ensure that your child’s uniform and PE kit is named. Thank you.
Topic this term will be ‘Volcanoes’ with particular focus on Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. We will be looking into how volcanoes are formed and why they erupt. We will investigate the importance of Pompeii and the discoveries that have been made there.
Our art and design will be topic related and we will be looking as using different materials to create art and finally making a volcano.
Could the children please bring in a 1L bottle, a piece of cardboard (no bigger than A3 size) and some old newspaper to enable us to complete our project. Thank you.
