Welcome to Bumblebees!
This half term our topic is All About Me! We will be learning about our bodies, emotions, senses, dreams, families and much more!
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
We will be getting to know our new peers and our buddies from year 5 by spending time with them. We will also be thinking about our emotions and feelings. As we get to know our School community we will begin to go into collective worship and to take part in singing practices.
Communication and Language
This half term we will be listening to stories and retelling them, learning lots of new songs, rhymes, poems and stories and new vocabulary. We will be using our performance and role play areas to do lots of talking and singing.
We will be reading many stories to do with our topic this term. Some of our favourite texts include: Owl Babies, The Colour Monster, Ruby's Worry and How to Catch a Star. We will be talking about what happens in stories, making predictions and sequencing them. We will also be using small world play to make up our own narratives.
We will be doing phonics each day, focussing on phase 2 sounds, learning how to blend them together to make, read and write words. We will be learning our sight words and will be bringing them home to practise.
This half term we will be singing counting songs and rhymes, sorting things in to groups and classifying them, and using our subitising knowledge skills to know how many we have without counting them. We will also be using what we know to look at and compare objects, using the correct vocabulary.
We will be spending lots of time building the muscles in our core, arms, legs and fingers which will help us to get ready for writing. We will be taking part in ‘Digit Dance’, ‘Dough Disco’ and ‘The Write Dance’ to get our bodies moving.
We will be spending lots of time outside, on the bikes, trikes and scooters. The tyre park, play area and track will be used each day to keep us active. Children will also participate in two PE sessions a week: Monday and Wednesday. They must wear either a plain white t-shirt, or one with a Leintwardine logo, a skort, navy shorts, joggers or leggings and trainers.
Understanding the World
We will be thinking about our families, the ways in which we have changed since we were babies and all about our bodies. We will also be learning about keeping clean and how to keep ourselves healthy and safe. We will be investigating our world, checking on the weather using our own class weather station and going on welly walks.
In RE, we will be focussing on creation.
Expressive Art and Design
As we learn about all the interesting things that our bodies do, we will be painting portraits, making skeleton collages and many different art activities. We will be acting out stories that we all ready know and developing our own story ideas.
Please remember that our door is always open and we are more than happy to discuss work or personal issues to make sure that your child has the best possible time at school.... there isn't much we can't help with, unless we don't know about it. If you need us, leave a message with the teacher on the gate in the morning or speak to us after school. We have new safeguarding procedures in place but these will not affect our open door policy.
Please use Seesaw to find out what we have been doing!
