Reception - Turtles

Welcome to Turtles!

Turtle class is taught by Miss Bowen and supported by Mrs Pearson.

Here is our classroom...

Our Curriculum

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

Through PSHE sessions and provision, we will focus on positive relationships and how these can be built upon. We will also explore conflict and resolutions.

Communication and Language

There are plentiful opportunities both in the indoor and outdoor environments to enable children to develop their communication and language skills. We will develop our vocabulary through play, reading and a 'Word of the Week'- this will be published on Seesaw.

Over the half-term, we will read a variety of texts, including lots of non-fiction to learn more about plants. Some our favourite texts include The Enormous Turnip, Katie's Sunflowers and Mad About Minibeasts.

Physical Development

We have daily fine motor sessions and activities in provision to help strengthen our muscles for writing. This includes: Digit Dance, Dough Disco and The Write Dance.

Our PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays. This half-term we will focus on team games and athletics.

Literacy

This half-term, we will consolidate phase four sounds in phonics, alongside fourteen tricky words (words that cannot be sounded out). We will practise reading and writing CVCC words. A reading book will be sent home for children to apply their phonics and reading skills. The expectation is for children to read 10 minutes, 5 days a week to build fluency. Please remember to practise green sight words too. You can read more about sight words here

Mathematics

This half term we will work on:

  • Building numbers beyond 10
  • Continuing patterns beyond 10
  • Verbal counting beyond 20
  • Verbal counting patterns
  • Adding
  • Taking away
  • Sharing
  • Grouping
  • Even and odd sharing
  • Play with and build doubles

World

Over the half-term we are going to explore all things plants! We will investigate different types of plants, how we can grow our own flowers and vegetables, and what role minibeasts play in plants.

In RE, we will explore Christianity and Islam further and think about places which are special to us. We will be comparing similarities and differences in holy buildings. Find our keys here.

Expressive Art and Design

We will begin the half-term by designing and creating our own 3D flowers using different materials. Later in the half-term, we will design and make some vegetable soup.
