This term the topic for Hedgehogs Class will be 'Explorers'. We will begin our adventures by exploring the polar regions, following in the footsteps of other great explorers such as Shackleton and Amundson. We are delighted to be involved in the STEM Polar Explorers Project which will help us develop the children's skills as scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. We will be welcoming Dr Ashley Green to support us with some hands on learning as part of the project.
In English lessons we will continue to develop our writing skills, looking particularly at diary writing and using different tenses for the first few weeks. This work will be linked to a fantastic picture book called Ice Trap based on Shackleton's failed attempt to cross Antarctica, voyaging in his ship Endurance. After this, we will share one of my favourite books The Penguin Who wanted to find out. We will learn so much that we'll be able to write our own non-chronological reports about emperor penguins.
Our maths topics for this term are Multiplication and Division, Money and Statistics. We will use Wednesday lessons and homework as an opportunity to revisit other areas of maths so we don't forget what we've already learned.
We will now be swimming on Wednesdays so don't forget your kit!!!!
